Year-Round School Intersession














Adjourned 		1.  The special meeting workshop of the Gadsden School Board convened in open session at 5:05 p.m. with Board President Mr. David Garcia presiding. This meeting was held in the Gadsden Middle School Cafeteria located at 1301 West Washington Street in Anthony, New Mexico.

Board Members present were Mr. David Garcia, Ms. Luz Vargas, Mr. Daniel Rollings, Mr. Santiago Burciaga, and Ms. Agueda Mora.

2. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and the Mission Statement was read.

3. Year-Round School Intersession. Ms. Yvonne Lozano said that she and some of her staff attended a year-round conference and they learned many new ideas on how to improve continuous learning with a continuous calendar.

Ms. Ann Steinhoff, Federal Programs Director, presented a plan for the intersession to help students that are in dire need of instruction. She figured that 217 teachers would be needed for a given intersession. Three 10-day intersessions will be held per year. Ms. Steinhoff figured that all this could be funded through Title I funds. She worked a magnificent plan that would serve the students most in need educationally.

Ms. Wendy Taylor spoke about the areas that are in most need of improvement. Cissy Andreas spoke about the math initiative and evaluation of the teaching methodology. She said they are also looking in increasing the students proficiency in problem solving. Mr. Suttmiller gave a presentation stressing that entry level students need more instructional time because their language proficiency is very low.

4. Mr. Rollings moved to adjourn the meeting. Supt. Haugen recommended approval of the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
